Fast iteration products are a double-edged sword
An owner of an accessory store told me that he had recently scrapped hundreds of thousands of dead stocks, all of which were old accessories that had been overstocked due to the remodel of the main engine factory for more than ten years. Many sluggish stocks in dealers and parts stores are caused by equipment modification. Many main engine factories will not buy back old parts after design changes and product modification.
As a result, dealers and parts stores have to bear the resulting losses. In fact, it is extremely unfair to let dealers and parts stores pay for the defects of the OEM's product design. Unfortunately, the main engine factory has the absolute right to speak, downstream partners can only be forced to accept.
A brand of domestic loaders rarely change the model, giving the impression that the equipment is not fashionable enough and the sense of science and technology is insufficient. B brand loaders, on the contrary, are often modified, the appearance is more and more fashionable, and some new technologies are used, but the reliability is often problematic, which can be bitter for their dealers. In order to ensure the timeliness of troubleshooting, they purchased a lot of spare parts assemblies and put them in the warehouse. When the main engine factory changed the supplier of the parts, the failure slowly disappeared, but the spare parts in the dealer warehouse became "fixed assets".
In contrast, A brand dealers have a much better life, with mature products, stable accessories, small SKU quantity, high spot rate and little backlog. One of the reasons for the rapid iteration of products is that the design is not mature enough, and its side effect is that it is easy to cause the backlog and waste of accessories inventory.
More risky parts inventory in overseas markets
The problem of spare parts inventory is more prominent in overseas markets. When Chinese brands enter the international market, we rob customers from major international brands. In order to ensure the timeliness of service, it is often "soldiers and horses are not moved, food and grass are first". Technical experts in the design department will list dozens of key spare parts that may fail in advance and put them into the local market as the initial inventory of spare parts.
The results are often not as good as people expected. A few years later, 90% of the initial inventory of accessories is still lying quietly in the warehouse, causing serious waste. However, when the product fails and is often out of stock, it has to be urgently transported to overseas. Not only is the cost high, customers have to stop and wait, resulting in serious customer complaints and negative word-of-mouth effects. Why does this inventory "mismatch" occur?
First of all, the delivery time in overseas markets is long. At present, about 90% of global trade is completed by sea. Affected by the new crown epidemic, ocean shipping is full of uncertainty, the cost of skyrocketing, the punctuality rate of only 30% to 40%, even less than half of the normal year. As a result, higher requirements are placed on the inventory spot ratio.
